Corporate
Identity Theft Course Series
Identity
Theft is the fastest growing crime in America, affecting businesses
as well as individuals. ID theft undermines the economic viability
of US corporations and the US itself. The "Corporate
Identity Theft" course series provide an overview of
the growing identity theft problem and proposes defense and
deterrence solutions.
The Corporate ID Theft series is intended for executives and
managers responsible for defending their personnel, business
"information" processes, proprietary information,
and property (e-business cyberspace) from the insidious crime
of identity theft. The following four factors are developed
into a model of how corporate identities are stolen and very
practical things you can do about it now.
Module 1 - Introduction: Ways Corporate Identities are
Stolen
Instructor: Dr. Judith Collins
For executives, identity theft involves "stealing"
personal identifying information and then using the information
to fraudulently establish credit, run up debt, or take over
existing financial accounts. For corporations, identity theft
involves "stealing" corporate bank account numbers,
credit card numbers, credit reports on customers, accounts
numbers on employees, such as from payroll or tax reports
and including supplier account numbers, and any other corporate
or stakeholder account numbers. This 19 minute module explains
how identities are stolen, and offers practical "right-now"
advice on how to stop the problem. This module is a prerequisite
to the other modules in this series.
Module 2 - Four Factor Model of Prevention and HR Best
Practices
Instructor: Dr. Judith Collins
There are four corporate assets: people, processes, proprietary
information, and property. These four factors are common across
all institutions, domestic or international and regardless
of type, size, location, product or market. All four assets
must be under control to prevent identity thefts. Module 2
is an intense 55 minute session that exclusively addresses
"people," the first factor--because as much as 70%
of ID thefts are inside jobs, and honest people are the first
line of defense against information theft.
Module 3 - Security Processes and Best Practices
Instructor: Dr. Judith Collins
Module 3 is a 24 minute briefing that addresses the remaining
three factors in identity theft. It illustrates practical
techniques to track departmental throughput of proprietary
information, namely business bank account and other identities,
as this information is processed in your company. The module
continues with lessons to identify elements of a process,
to identify the weak points in the process, and concludes
with techniques to secure processes and property.
THE SERIES CONSISTS OF THREE MODULES
AND IS AVAILABLE IN TWO FORMATS:
1. Online training is accessible through the National
Center of Manufacturing Sciences Knowledge Solutions web
page. The cost is $75.00 per module.
2. A set of three CD Roms, produced by the National Center
