RESEARCH FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT

The Institute's crime analysts conduct RESEARCH to:

  • develop "behavioral" profiles of criminal activity,
  • establish "criminal" profiles based on previous crimes, criminal activities, and relationships,
  • identify crime networks by determining relationships among crimes and criminals,
  • forecast the likelihood of a crime occurring on a given day, time, and place, using crime data,
  • identify patterns and trends of criminal activities, and
    link common factors among crimes, such as weapons used, physical description, modus operandi.
