CORPORATE FRAUD INVESTIGATOR TRAINING

The Research Institute trains Corporate Fraud Investigators to use the Online Criminal Tracking and Investigative System (OCTIS).

Clients trained by the Institute include, among others, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan, MGM Grand Casino Detroit, General Motors Corporation, DaimlerChrysler, Amerisure Insurance Company, and Pinkerton.

The OCTIS procedure uses a system developed at Michigan State University, School of Criminal Justice, in the Laboratories of the Identity Theft Partnerships in Prevention Program. No previous computer experience is necessary for this eight-hour short-course.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of each eight-hour block of instruction and training, investigators are able to:

  • demonstrate how the Internet can be used to track identity theft perpetrators and other criminals,

  • access perpetrator's web sites,

  • describe and conduct an identity theft investigation using OCTIS,

  • list techniques needed to protect themselves and others from breaches of personal computer security,

  • conduct national and international fraud investigations from their desks
    using OCTIS.

The Research Institute conducts the following CORPORATE WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS:

Search & Seizures of Computer Equipment: Two-hour workshop provides details on how to preserve chain of evidence involving search & seizure of computers and computer-related materials and equipment.

Information Security Risk Assessments: Four-hour workshop on tracing the "throughput" of proprietary information within organizational departments, identifying the potential susceptibilities to theft or other losses in the information "process," and developing mechanisms to secure the information process.
