CORPORATE
FRAUD INVESTIGATOR TRAINING
The
Research Institute trains Corporate Fraud Investigators to
use the Online Criminal Tracking and Investigative System
(OCTIS).
Clients
trained by the Institute include, among others, Blue Cross
and Blue Shield of Michigan, MGM Grand Casino Detroit, General
Motors Corporation, DaimlerChrysler, Amerisure Insurance Company,
and Pinkerton.
The OCTIS
procedure uses a system developed at Michigan State University,
School of Criminal Justice, in the Laboratories of the Identity
Theft Partnerships in Prevention Program. No previous computer
experience is necessary for this eight-hour short-course.
TRAINING
OBJECTIVES
Upon successful
completion of each eight-hour block of instruction and training,
investigators are able to:

demonstrate
how the Internet can be used to track identity theft perpetrators
and other criminals,
-
access
perpetrator's web sites,
-
describe
and conduct an identity theft investigation using OCTIS,
-
list
techniques needed to protect themselves and others from
breaches of personal computer security,
-
conduct
national and international fraud investigations from their
desks
using OCTIS.
The
Research Institute conducts the following CORPORATE
WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS:
Search
& Seizures of Computer Equipment:
Two-hour workshop provides details on how to preserve chain
of evidence involving search & seizure of computers and
computer-related materials and equipment.
Information
Security Risk Assessments: Four-hour workshop on tracing
the "throughput" of proprietary information within
organizational departments, identifying the potential susceptibilities
to theft or other losses in the information "process,"
and developing mechanisms to secure the information process.
e-Commerce
and Website Risk Assessments: Three-hour workshop on securing
the business website; assesses consumer perceptions of the
utility and security of the website.
PC
Security: Three-hour workshop on practical methods to
secure personal computers within the organization; no expert
knowledge of computers required.
Personnel
Security: Three-hour workshop on selecting "in"
honest employees and selecting "out" dishonest job
applicants; complies with the Guidelines of Title VII for
Fairness in Personnel Selection and the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission.
